Varicose Vein Treatment

At Bella MD, we take the treatment of varicose veins seriously and use the latest state-of-the-art outpatient procedures to eliminate both the veins and the health risks that accompany them. Treatment for varicose veins varies with each patient. Varicose veins and spider veins affect 25% of women and 15% of men. The veins may cause pain, swelling, or a heavy feeling in the legs in addition to the unsightly bulging appearance. Varicose veins tend to be hereditary so if your family members have them then your chance of having them is higher than average. Otherwise, obesity, tall stature, and excessive standing on hard surfaces contribute to varicose veins.

What are varicose veins and why do I have them?

Varicose veins are usually caused by a faulty valve in the affected vein. This valve allows the blood to back flow from the deeper higher pressure veins into the lower pressure surface veins. When this occurs, the surface veins dilate and become visible. Our first step with every patient is to check the valves in your leg with an ultrasound to determine if you have this condition. If you do, then it is very important to correct this problem first to ensure the success of your treatment.

How does Bella MD treat my veins?

Dr. Engleman will personally meet and consult with you on the best treatment plan for your varicose veins. Since everyone is unique and every vein is different, we offer a variety of services to meet the needs of our patients.  Endo Venous Laser Therapy (EVLT) is a revolutionary new FDA approved technique excellent for treating the large bulging varicose veins. For smaller spider veins, laser therapy, ambulatory phlebectomy and sclerotherapy are all excellent treatment options. After initial consultation and ultrasound, Dr. Engleman will construct your personal treatment plan.  EVLT, ambulatory phlebectomy and sclerotherapy are covered by most insurance.

How does EVLT® work?

EVLT® eliminates unsightly varicose veins using targeted laser energy to seal the faulty vein shut. EVLT requires no hospital stay, involves little or no scarring and has minimal recovery time. Further there are no side effects. In less than an hour you can be free from bulging, twisted varicose veins and back to enjoying your everyday activities. EVLT® is safe, fast, and 98% effective.

What treatment options are available at Bella MD?

Large Bulging Veins with a Broken Valve:
EVLT Endovascular Laser Therapy. This procedure is done in the office and is excellent for large veins in the leg. This procedure is done in the office and involves sealing the leaking valve under ultrasound control.

Medium Size Veins with Normal Valves:
Ambulatory Phlebotomy utilizes small needle punctures to remove the small veins from your leg. It is done here in the office under local anesthesia.

Foam Sclerotherapy uses small amounts of a chemical which we inject into small veins to cause them to collapse. This is done in our office and requires no anesthesia.

Small Spider Veins:
Laser Therapy uses a light beam to erase the small veins from your leg. It is best for small blue veins. We use a topical anesthetic to numb the skin over the vein.

Small Spider Veins of the Leg:
Sclerotherapy uses small amounts of a medicine which we inject into small veins to cause them to collapse. This is done in our office and requires no anesthesia.

What does EVLT cost?

EVLT and other therapies above can rage in cost from $ 250-$3000. Most insurance will pay for initial exam, diagnostic ultrasound, and EVLT.  Financing is available for treatment plans and credit cards are accepted.
